How a CNC Machine Aids Solid Surface Creation
At Superior Surfaces, we have recently invested in a new CNC (computer numerical control) router; a state of the art, computer controlled piece of technology that we use to thermoform and cut the solid surfaces that we fabricate.
We continually work to create the best quality service and product for our customers. By investing in this new state of the art CNC machine, it will allow us to meet the standards of excellent design and service that our customers have come to expect; allowing us to create unique products from quality materials.
Unless you are already familiar with CNC, then you will be unaware of the benefits that this tool has and how it can impact the end result.
What is a CNC machine?
A CNC machine is a machine that utilizes Computer Numerical Control over machine tools like routers, grinders or mills. CNC is different from typical machines in that the type of software that is used to control the machine is specially customised to allow precise control of features such as speed, location, coordination and feed rate. This allows greater precision and control over the design process, allowing us to maintain and improve the quality of our work as it creates a more accurate process.
CNC reduces errors
The CNC machine also enables us to reduce waste and reduce errors – ultimately meaning that we can fabricate far quicker than previously possible.
This is because the router allows the Superior Surfaces team to consistently produce surfaces that are precise and increasingly high-quality, because the dimensions of the solid surface CAD design are entered into specialist CAM software, the dimensions are converted by the software to control the router – thus giving the team greater control over the surface being produced.
The CNC router aids us during the thermoforming process, whereby the surfaces are heated to around 160 degrees celsius and moulded into the desired shape, specified by the client. The CNC router automates the trimming process, making it a far more time efficient and accurate process.
CNC cutting is extremely precise while using less energy, especially when cutting materials such as Corian or Richlite.
CNC cutting gives us fantastic edge quality on all our cuts and means we can cut more accurately when creating surfaces at Superior Surfaces. This also means that replica cuts are almost identical every time due to the accuracy of CNC cutting.
In some cases, CNC cutting can even be faster than other more traditional cutting methods while reducing the need for tooling to achieve the same high-quality edging.
As CNC machines are all computerised, there is a lot less room for error which means there are less chances for any complications to occur. So, not only will our projects be delivered to you faster, they will be delivered to you at a higher standard.
How can CNC be used?
CNC is becoming increasingly popular to fabricate not only worktops but also exterior cladding and much more. As it is a versatile machine, the work that can be created with a variety of materials leaves the opportunities endless.
Using CNC to create signage is one of its most popular uses, and as the machine offers such precision, we can create eye-catching signage to help our customers create the signage that their business requires.
Another way that the CNC machine can be used, is to create promotional items such as a coasters, key rings or paper weights that can also have the brand logo incorporated into it. Proving that CNC can be used for far more than just creating excellently crafted surfaces.
At Superior Surfaces, we only used the best solid surface materials to provide our customers with the best quality possible, and we are delighted that our CNC machine is able to help us in achieving this goal.
